Since 2018, our JavitsCares program has successfully diverted tens of thousands of leftover materials from exhibits, such as furniture and household items, to local non-profit organizations. We expanded the reach of JavitsCares to handle food rescue in 2019. Farmers and Cultivated team members assist with identifying, collecting and rescuing excess produce and prepackaged food that meet proper health and safety standards to donate to local organizations fighting food insecurity. Each year, Javits Center employees participate in volunteer events with donation partners to provide hands-on assistance to our community.
From April to October, Javits Center offers building tours that cover the breadth of our sustainability program with a behind-the-scenes look at our one-acre rooftop farm. Book a tour today to get an insider look at how we model sustainable practices for the events industry, venues nationwide and green buildings across New York State and New York City.
Javits Center is focused on being a good neighbor to our community. In addition to our sustainable practices which help us reduce emissions, the Center has a number of programs that help support the New York community.
Our Javits Juniors program fosters sustainability education for K-12 students through our tour program and unique workshops led by experienced guides and educators. Using Steel Farm as a classroom, participants learn about the mission and operations of the Javits Center, the events industry, the impact of our sustainable operations on the community and their future, as well as the legacy of our namesake, the late Senator Jacob K. Javits. Tours typically last 60 to 90 minutes. If you would like to schedule a Javits Juniors tour, please send an email to Communications Assistant Indira Turney at iturney@javitscenter.com.
