Our Community

The Javits Center supports the New York community in a number of ways – with new programs that encourage sustainable practices and education about the importance of green building:

JavitsCares

Since 2018, our JavitsCares program has successfully diverted tens of thousands of leftover materials from exhibits such as furniture and household items to local non-profit organizations. In 2019, we expanded the reach of JavitsCares to include standard operating procedures for food rescue. Chefs and Cultivated team members assist with identifying, collecting and rescuing food to proper health and safety standards, and donate them to local organizations fighting food insecurity. Each year, Javits Center employees participate in volunteer events with donation partners to show how they care for the community.

Javits Juniors

Our Javits Juniors program fosters sustainability education for K-12 students through our tour program and unique workshops led by experienced guides and educators. Using The Farm as a classroom, workshops cover a wide range of topics that allow area students to discover a sense of place, build a deeper connection with food and where it comes from and better understand the importance of environmental stewardship. Each year, we offer college scholarships to local high school students in coordination with the Marian B. and Jacob K. Javits Foundation, the New York City Department of Education and the Fund for Public Schools.

Tours

Each year from April to October, the Javits Center offers building tours that cover the breadth of our sustainability program with a sneak peek at our one-acre rooftop farm. We offer private group tours on Tuesdays and public tours on Thursdays. Book a tour today to get an insider look at how we model sustainable practices for the events industry, venues nationwide and green buildings across New York State and New York City.
