Get acquainted with the Javits Center executive staff.

Alan Steel is the President & Chief Executive Officer of the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, which operates the Javits Center. Under Mr. Steel 's leadership, the Javits Center underwent a comprehensive renovation including significant investments in technology and sustainable improvements. Mr. Steel has spent more than 30 years as an event management executive and United Kingdom trade development official. He is the former President of George Little Management (GLM), a major producer of trade shows in the United States and Canada, where he was responsible for the creation of new events, oversight of corporate strategic planning, marketing programs and the direction for various company events including NY NOW (formerly New York International Gift Fair), the National Stationery Show, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair and SURTEX. Mr. Steel was also active in developing domestic and international markets for the company. Before joining GLM in 1982, Mr. Steel worked for more than 15 years with the British government in a number of trade-related positions at the Department of Trade and Industry in London, the British Consulate in Chicago and the British Trade Development Office in New York. In these roles, Alan bought and sold exhibit space to participants in trade and consumer shows, conferences, and special events. In 2014, Mr. Steel was awarded with the King’s Glove award by the International Association of Exhibitors and Events (IAEE) for his enriched contributions to the trade show industry in New York and beyond.

Christine McMahon oversees Human Resources and Labor Solutions at the Javits Center, coordinating the scheduling and assignments for thousands of workers who construct some of the largest trade shows in the United States. Mrs. McMahon manages the hiring of skilled labor for each trade show and special event, a critical component of operations at the Javits Center. Since joining the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Mrs. McMahon has implemented a new performance management review system designed to increase productivity and accountability among all employees. Prior to her current role, Mrs. McMahon served as Vice President, Human Resources/Integration Officer for Tops Friendly Markets, and Vice President of Human Resources and Labor Relations for the Penn Traffic Company, two major supermarket operations in the Northeast. Mrs. McMahon has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management and Economics from State University of New York Empire State College.

Melanie McManus serves as the Javits Center’s Chief Financial Officer, and she is responsible for the day-to-day planning, implementing, managing and controlling of all finance-related activities of the Javits Center. This includes the development of financial and operational strategies, metrics tied to these strategies and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets. She is also directly responsible for accounting, finance, procurement, financial statement development, forecasting, job costing, risk management and cash management. For over three years, Melanie served as the Controller, overseeing the financial management team at the Javits Center. She is a New York State Certified Public Accountant. Before joining the Javits Center team, Melanie served as Principal at UHY Advisors, one of the region’s leading accounting firms where she provided client relationship management, auditing expertise and staff supervision and training. She attended Fordham University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

Kenneth Sanchez manages facility operations at the Javits Center, a 2.1 million square-foot property that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Mr. Sanchez oversees all construction projects designed to maintain and improve the building's operations, including daily engineering activities, sustainability improvements and customer-facing equipment. Before joining the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Mr. Sanchez served as Director of Engineering and Sustainability Champion, as well as an Owner Representative in Project Management for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. He also has served as Director of Operations and Facilities Management for SMG-Worldwide Entertainment & Convention Vnue Management and Director of Engineering for Wyndham Worldwide. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Turabo in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and a Masters degree in Hospitality Management from Cornell University.

Bradley Siciliano serves as the General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Ethics Officer for the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation. At the Javits Center, Mr. Siciliano oversees all legal activities, including commercial transactions, government regulatory requirements, corporate governance and ethics, labor and employee relations and litigation management. Mr. Siciliano also provides legal advice to its Board of Directors and Executive Staff. Mr. Siciliano has extensive in-house experience, including the fields of corporate ethics and compliance and corporate social responsibility. He has served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to Sharp Electronics Corporation and Assistant General Counsel to JVC Americas Corporation. Mr. Siciliano also served as a commercial litigator at Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam and Roberts and Golenbock, Eiseman, Assor and Bell. Mr. Siciliano has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and received his Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where he served on the Law Review.

Mark Sims has led a technological transformation at the Javits Center, overseeing a series of significant infrastructure improvements that has allowed the facility to emerge as a leader among convention centers across the United States. Among several improvement projects, Mr. Sims has managed the installation of a state-of-the-art telecommunications system that provides bandwidth and wireless coverage for 70,000 users at any one time. As Chief Information Officer, Mr. Sims oversees all issues related to electrical solutions, internal marketing, telecommunications, management information systems and information technology operations. Before joining the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Mr. Sims served as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Mitsui Foods, a publicly traded food and ingredient import/export company, and Vice President of Finance for U.S. Operations for Temco Service Industries, a publicly traded facility management company. Mr. Sims holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance and Accounting from Salisbury State University.

Tony Sclafani oversees all internal and external communications at the Javits Center, serving as the chief spokesman and public affairs liaison to media outlets, government officials and community leaders throughout the New York region and United States. At the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Mr. Sclafani manages the Communications Solutions department, providing strategic counsel to senior executives while developing a variety of customer-facing branding products and platforms. As Chief Communications Officer, Mr. Sclafani is implementing a new integrated communications strategy to showcase the renovated Javits Center, including its critical importance and impact to millions of New Yorkers. Before joining the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Mr. Sclafani served as Associate Commissioner of Communications and Public Affairs at the New York City Department of Buildings, as well as Press Secretary at the New York City Fire Department and a police reporter at the New York Daily News. Mr. Sclafani holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the College of the Holy Cross.

Kenneth Dixon oversees security and safety operations at the Javits Center, working closely with event management and employees to ensure a safe environment for millions of visitors. Prior to joining the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Kenneth served as the Vice President and Head of Security for Sotheby’s, Inc. and was responsible for the security of $2 billion of art, jewelry and other valuable products. Ken also served as Director of U.S. Operations for Brink’s, Inc., where he managed a complex network of import, export and domestic transportation of valuables on a global scale. Not only did Ken oversee the security, transport, storage and logistics for the movement of commodities, but he also designed several Brink’s facilities across the country. In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Kenneth oversaw the 72-hour removal of 1,100 metric tons of silver and 200 metric tons of other precious metals from beneath the ruins of 4 World Trade Center in a salvage mission for Scotia Bank. Kenneth received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from Pace University and has completed numerous American Management Association courses in human resources, advanced financial analysis, corporate investigations and employee behavioral studies. He is also a member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), Association for Threat Assessment Professionals(ATAP), Overseas Advisory Council (OSAC), Jeweler’s Security Alliance (JSA), American Museum Association (AMA), NYPD Shield, JFK Cargo Association and a former gilded scholar member of the Gerson Lehrman Consulting Group.

Timothy Gaburungyi oversees technology operations, strategic planning, talent training and standardization at the Javits Center, ensuring our new state-of-the-art systems operate at maximum efficiency for all of our customers.  Since joining the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation in 2013, Tim has helped to lead the effort to make the  Javits Center one of the most advanced meeting places in the United States. Under his leadership, the delivery of modern IT services has vastly improved, attracting new customers from around the world and transforming his team into a valuable business operation. Timothy has two decades of experience in the hospitality industry on multiple continents, including Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America. Before joining the Javits Center team, he managed several multi-million dollar projects for Starwood Hotels and Resorts where he deployed technology services across all of the organization’s hotel branches.

Michael Ruberry oversees all internal and external set-up operations at the Javits Center. At the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, Mr. Ruberry manages set-up operations for our events and oversees the ordering and deployment of set-up resources in order to provide optimal service to our customers. He also will be working closely with Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doreen Guerin to develop new strategies related to the upcoming expansion project. Michael also will help to coordinate operations among internal departments, event producers and their contractors to better ensure the move-in and move-out periods for all events are performed in a seamless fashion at all times. For 16 years, Michael worked at event producer GLM, where he served as Vice President of Operations and Customer Relations. He also worked at general services contractor Global Experience Specialists (GES) where he served as Vice President of National Sales.
