Lost and Found

If you've lost something and we have found it, here's generally what happens: The New York State Police retain custody and will attempt to find the owner. The State Police can be reached at (212) 216-3470. After a day or so, if the owner cannot be found, the Police turns the item over to the Center's Public Safety Division (212) 216-2344. Security, Fire Safety & Medical Emergencies

Security

The Center is fully equipped with a state of the art central command station, fire suppression systems, security cameras and emergency generators which operate or are on standby around the clock. The Center’s Public Safety Department maintains twenty-four (24) hour security for the perimeter areas and internal patrols. Event managers are responsible for the complete security within the exhibit areas, meeting rooms, and other areas; including crowd control in public areas.

Event management must assure that a security supervisor is on site at all times to receive information or complaints in reference to the conduct of contract security employees. We reserve the right to ask security personnel to leave if the situation warrants such action.

Security contracted by event management may not carry firearms or weapons of any kind without prior written permission from Javits management.

First Aid / Medical Emergencies

The Center maintains a small medical facility on site located on Level 1 in the southwest corner of the building with a nurse on duty during the Center's normal business hours. During events with more than 5,000 people, the office is staffed by EMTs from St. Vincent's hospital and at least one ambulance on site.

House telephones can be found in halls corridors throughout the Center and should be used to notify the Command Center of emergency situations. The emergency number is 2222.

The Javits Center has 22 portable defibrillators strategically placed around the Center. The Public Safety Department has been trained in the proper use of defibrillators should such an emergency occur.

In case of cardiac arrest or other serious emergency such as a fire, dial the Command Center at Extension 2222 from any house phone, or call the Command Center at 212 216-2222. Do not call 911. Give your name, type of emergency and the location.
